After a first trial at the British Grand Prix earlier this season, the F1 Sprint format is back this weekend at Monza, with the drivers competing in an 18-lap Saturday afternoon dash, the finishing order setting the grid for Sunday's Italian GP.
So a new format at this most historic of tracks, and there was drama from the get-go as Pierre Gasly, who started sixth, tagged Daniel Ricciardo with his front wing and flew off track and into the barriers moments later, with the Safety Car called out in response.
Gasly was thankfully unhurt, and soon the racing resumed on track, with Valtteri Bottas taking the win ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and the two McLarens of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris.
Lewis Hamilton had a poor start from second and could only finish fifth behind the McLaren duo. Hit play on the video above to see all the action from the Saturday dash at Monza.
