Max Verstappen claimed his second World Championship after putting in a dominant display to win a rain-hampered Japanese Grand Prix – leading home a fifth Red Bull one-two of the season.
After a rain delay, Verstappen led away from pole, holding off the early challenge of Charles Leclerc and pulling away from the field to seal his 12th victory of the season.
Leclerc took the chequered flag in second – but was demoted to third – after he was adjudged to have left the track and gained an advantage in defending from Sergio Perez, vaulting the Red Bull driver up to second.

Esteban Ocon held off the challenge of Lewis Hamilton to seal fourth place – his best finish of the season – with the Mercedes driver settling for fifth. Sebastian Vettel recovered from a spin at the start to finish sixth, ahead of Fernando Alonso in seventh.
This race saw two drivers retire in the opening laps as Carlos Sainz crashed into the barrier before Alex Albon stopped on track with a mechanical issue.
