WATCH: How race day unfolded at Spa as heavy rain cuts long-delayed Belgium GP short
The Belgian Grand Prix was always going to be something of an unknown quantity, thanks to the rain that had hit qualifying and which persisted into race day – with Sergio Perez its first Sunday victim, as he slid his Red Bull into the barriers on the way to the grid.
Well over three hours later and with the only laps completed having been run behind the Safety Car, Perez’s team mate Max Verstappen was declared the winner, with Williams’ George Russell in second, and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completing the Spa podium.
