BEYOND THE GRID: Jaime Alguersuari on his record-breaking debut to high-pressure exit

Jaime Alguersuari’s Formula 1 career is a tale of ‘what ifs’ having come into the championship amidst a huge wave of expectation and pressure.

Having been selected by Red Bull to join its young driver programme at the age of 15, the Spaniard found himself thrown into his F1 debut for Toro Rosso in 2009, making him at 19 years old the youngest driver to make a Grand Prix start at the time.

But after just two full seasons at the pinnacle of the sport and with only a handful of points finishes to his name, Alguersuari was dropped before announcing his retirement completely from motorsport just four years later at the age of 25.

Speaking to host Tom Clarkson, Alguersuari looks back at his rapid rise to Formula 1, the demands of the Red Bull junior programme and how music ‘saved his life’ having become a DJ and producer since he left F1.
