Ferrari evaluating whether to recall design chief Resta from Alfa Romeo

As part of Ferrari’s plans to react after a slow start to 2019, internal discussions are under way regarding recalling Simone Resta, currently Technical Director at Alfa Romeo, to strengthen the Scuderia’s technical team…
Resta left Ferrari, where he was their Head of Vehicle Project Coordination (essentially chief designer), midway through last year to take up the lead technical role at Sauber, which has now become Alfa Romeo, to replace Jorg Zander following his sudden departure.
Resta played a key role in shaping last year’s Ferrari – the SF71H – which for much of the year was the car to beat, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the Prancing Horse are pondering bringing him back to help their struggling outfit.
We are always trying to improve ourselves by looking where maybe we miss strengths
“As a team, no doubt we are always trying to improve ourselves by looking where maybe we miss strengths,” said Team Principal Mattia Binotto. “Simone has been with Ferrari in the past. He moved to Alfa Romeo as Technical Director and is having a great experience.
“We are evaluating him to be back at a certain stage but that’s not something which we have already decided. We’ve covered his role currently in Maranello, so it’s not a plug-in situation.
“But it is true that we’re thinking [about it], as we are thinking for other people that may join or may leave. In any organisation there is this dynamic and that is normal.”
