Ferrari spend final development tokens on engine upgrade

Ferrari have used their last engine development tokens of the season on a power unit update for the Italian team's home race in Monza.

The Scuderia, who are the first manufacturer to spend all 32 of their tokens, have made the update available to Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and both Haas drivers. Sauber - the other Ferrari customer team running 2016-spec engines - do not yet have the latest parts at their disposal.

Ahead of FP1, the FIA confirmed that Vettel’s and Raikkonen’s cars have both been fitted with a new internal combustion engine, new turbocharger, new MGU-H, new control electronics and new energy store for this weekend.

All these changes were made within their allocation for the season, so no penalties have been accrued.

The Haas cars of Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez, meanwhile, both have new internal combustion engines, new turbochargers and new MGU-H components.

The updated hardware was used for the first time in Friday morning's opening practice at Monza, with Raikkonen and Vettel finishing just behind the leading Mercedes and Grosjean and Gutierrez a solid sixth and ninth respectively.
