Giovinazzi set to start from the back of the grid at Spa

Antonio Giovinazzi is set to start from the back of the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix after Alfa Romeo fitted new engine components as a result of the failure he suffered in qualifying...
The Italian suffered a problem with Ferrari's new spec engine towards the end of the opening segment of qualifying, having already clocked a time good enough to progress to the next stage, and pulled to the side of the track.
Alfa Romeo opted to fit a fresh updated engine, rather than revert to an old unit from the pool. He took a new internal combustion engine of the season, fourth turbocharger, fourth MGU-H and fourth control electronics, triggering a series of penalties as they are outside his allocation.
Given he was set to start from the back, Alfa Romeo took the opportunity to change his gearbox, too, adding to his penalty count.
Meanwhile, McLaren have made further component changes for Carlos Sainz to help build his pool of parts. The team gave him the updated Renault engine on Friday, before removing it for use later in the season. They then reverted to an old spec.
Ahead of the race, the team gave Sainz a fourth MGU-K and fourth energy store of the season, adding more penalties to his tally, leaving him set to start from the back, too.
Finally, after Robert Kubica’s engine blowout in qualifying, Williams opted to take the car out of parc ferme, triggering a pit lane start.
They have changed the internal combustion engine, turbocharger and MGU-H as well as the gearbox and rear-wing.
