It was a damp conclusion to Friday’s practice action at the Japanese Grand Prix, with drivers completing the majority of their laps on intermediate tyres during FP2 around the Suzuka circuit.
After a dry but cool opening session, showers in the build up to second practice made for a slippery track surface, meaning there was no chance of the times posted in FP1 being beaten.
As conditions improved, some late exploratory runs on slicks saw McLaren driver Oscar Piastri post the fastest time, with his 1m 34.725s some five seconds slower than what Red Bull’s Max Verstappen managed earlier in the day.
