Watch highlights of the first FP1 session of the year, as the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix weekend kicked off – a field of brand-new cars taking to the track to begin a new era.
AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly topped the timesheets in the opening practice session in Bahrain, followed by the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc (who shrugged off a spin) and Carlos Sainz – while Mercedes' George Russell finished fourth in FP1.

That left reigning champion Max Verstappen rounding out the top five, his rival Lewis Hamilton seventh.
That was after Esteban Ocon's Alpine jettisoned a good chunk of its side bodywork, and Valtteri Bottas's engine hit a problem – leaving the Alfa Romeo driver bound to the garage.
