Mercedes kicked off their Miami Grand Prix weekend with a one-two result as George Russell led team mate Lewis Hamilton during Friday’s first practice session, which was briefly halted due to a crash for Nico Hulkenberg.
Russell lost a chunk of running early in the practice hour due to a steering rack change, but his late run on the soft compound tyre yielded a time of 1m 30.125s, putting him two-tenths clear of Hamilton.

Red flags were waved just after the halfway mark when Hulkenberg ran wide at Turn 3 and slid into the barriers, inflicting significant damage on his Haas and leaving mechanics with work to do before second practice.
Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz sandwiched the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, while Pierre Gasly put his Alpine in front of the Aston Martin drivers to complete the top six positions.
