Lando Norris topped the timesheets in the opening practice hour of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, leading the way from Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in a session affected by changing weather conditions.
With hail and rain having fallen at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve earlier on Friday, FP1 got underway on time but the pit exit remained closed as marshals worked to clear the track of standing water, before the lights went green some 20 minutes later.
FP1: Norris leads Sainz and Leclerc during wet first practice in Canada
There was another brief pause when red flags were thrown just after the halfway point due to Kick Sauber's Zhou Guanyu pulling off the circuit following contact with the barriers.
As the action picked up again in the latter stages, it was Norris who set the pace with a lap of 1m 24.435s in the McLaren, ahead of the Ferrari pair of Sainz and Leclerc followed by Lewis Hamilton in fourth, while Max Verstappen rounded out the top five.
Jack Doohan, meanwhile, did not record a timed lap after stepping in for Esteban Ocon at Alpine, making him one of three drivers not to get a time on the board in the hour.
