New York Jets owner Woody Johnson acquires minority stake in Aston Martin

Woody Johnson has been appointed to Aston Martin’s Board of Directors as Vice Chairman.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has acquired a minority stake in Aston Martin that sees him take on the role of Vice Chairman on the team’s Board of Directors with immediate effect.

The American billionaire, who was formerly the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, has years of experience in the sports industry – he purchased NFL team the New York Jets in 2000 and holds a 43% stake in Premier League side Crystal Palace.

His pre-existing business interests could offer valuable global opportunities for Aston Martin, who announced Johnson’s involvement ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix. Additionally, they confirmed that he will not undertake any day-to-day management duties – they will remain with Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll.

The team are currently 10th in the constructors’ standings but have ambitions of improving further up the order, helped by recent upgrades introduced at the Hungaroring. An updated power unit will also debut this weekend, which Aston Martin and partner Honda are optimistic will improve their performance further.
