PADDOCK PASS: The drivers report back after a hectic Monza qualifying
Lewis Hamilton headed into Saturday evening at Monza with the satisfaction of having set the fastest ever lap in Formula 1 history, while securing a record-extending seventh pole position at the circuit into the bargain.
Hamilton lapped La Pista Magica at an incredible 164.267mph average speed, as Mercedes locked out the first row at Monza for the first time since 2016. But for Ferrari, on pole here for the last two years, the news was less good, with Charles Leclerc only able to take 13th on the grid, while on-track jockeying in the final part of Q1 saw Sebastian Vettel unable to qualify higher than 17th.
