Stewards reach verdict after McLaren intra-team collision in Singapore GP Sprint
The stewards investigated the incident after the Singapore Sprint before deciding to take no further action.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have both escaped punishment after the McLaren team mates collided on the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint.
The incident took place at Turn 5 as the duo chased Charles Leclerc's Ferrari for the final step on the podium, with Norris diving to the inside of his team mate ahead, which resulted in the pair making contact and spinning.
While Piastri retired after hitting the wall, Norris recovered and was able to reach the chequered flag in P8.
Post-Sprint, the stewards investigated the incident and decided that no further action would be taken.
"The driver of Car 81 explained that he had not expected Car 1 to attempt an overtake and, after turning in, noticed Car 1 on the inside and attempted to leave space," noted the stewards' report.
"The driver of Car 1 said that he saw an opportunity to overtake. He said that the front axle of his car was ahead of the mirror of Car 81 prior to the apex and therefore expected to be left space. As he approached the apex, the space was less than he had anticipated so he had to use the inside kerb and braked and a collision occurred."
The stewards concluded that, "both drivers had contributed to the incident and that neither driver was wholly or predominantly to blame for the collision. Therefore the Stewards determined to take no further action."
On the incident and before the stewards' investigation, Norris stated: "I think the pace was very strong. Obviously we were just stuck the whole race, and the last lap there was a big opportunity into Turn 5.
"I went for it, the gap closed bit more than I would have liked. Obviously I've had to back out of it because the gap was closing, so I've had to try and avoid the incident and obviously there still was one.
"It was a big gap, I went for it, I have the right to do that. The rest we go review as a team."
Piastri said: "I need to look at it. I didn't see him at the apex.
"I looked behind into the corner and saw he was a reasonable way behind for a corner like that but I'll have a look and the team can do what it needs to do."
