TREMAYNE: The story of the 2011 Canadian GP – one of the most extraordinary races I’ve ever covered


I’ve covered three or four Le Mans 24 Hours, two Indianapolis 500s, a Firecracker 400 and up until this weekend had reported 658 Grands Prix. But I can NEVER remember a race that seemed to go on as long as the one we’re recalling here.
It had everything. Appalling weather. A high-profile clash between team mates. Other driver-to-driver incidents. Spins. Penalties. Five Safety Car deployments. One red flag. Seemingly endless delay. One driver who made six pit stops and at one stage ran dead last before fighting back to win during intense, game-changing drama on the very last lap. And it lasted more than four hours.
