Sir Frank Williams, who has died at the age of 79, was one of the most revered figures Formula 1 has ever seen.
From humble beginnings financing his first racing team with earnings from his job as a grocery salesman, Williams made it all the way to Formula 1, before launching Williams Grand Prix Engineering in 1977 alongside Patrick Head.

Sixteen titles followed – but tragedy was on the horizon too, as Williams suffered a spinal cord injury in a road car crash in 1986 that would leave him in a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. Despite that, success continued to come on track, before Williams eventually sold up the team to Dorilton Capital in 2020.
