Lando Norris emerged as the best qualifier in tricky wet conditions around Interlagos, beating George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda to pole position.
The McLaren driver came close to being knocked out in the first stage of qualifying, but he narrowly snuck through and went on to clock a lap time of 1m 23.405s, which was more than enough to go 0.173s clear of Russell.
Norris avoided being caught out by the slippery track surface as the rain continued to fall on and off throughout qualifying, leading to some shock early exits for Lewis Hamilton and the Red Bull pair of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
