It’s been quite the week for Mick Schumacher. First, he was confirmed as a Formula 1 driver for 2021 after signing for Haas, and days later he claimed the prestigious Formula 2 crown in a tense and thrilling season finale.
With only him and fellow Ferrari junior Callum Ilott in contention for the crown, the 21-year-old German blotted his copybook with a costly lock up on Lap 1. Needing to change tyres, Schumacher’s fate was suddenly in other people’s hands, but with Ilott fading to P10 at the flag, Michael Schumacher’s son’s position became irrelevant, as he claimed a well-deserved crown, following in the footsteps of Charles Leclerc and George Russell among others.
