A fresh-faced Perez made his mark with a brilliant drive at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix, starting ninth for Sauber only to give Fernando Alonso a run for his money in a stunning wet race.

Time and time again, Perez could take on the big guns in less competitive machinery, replicating his Malaysia drive with a stunning charge through the wet on the biggest stage, at the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix, for Force India.

Then there was the epic 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix where Perez reminded the world that he could, indeed, conjure a podium out of thin air.
