Mercedes locked out the top of the time sheets in first practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix on Friday morning, but in the afternoon session Red Bull hit back as Max Verstappen went quickest by almost half a second.
Red Bull had been tipped to have the egde on title rivals Mercedes at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but kept their powder dry in FP1, before appearing to show more of their hand in the second session.

Further down the pitlane it was a frustrating afternoon for McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo and George Russell at Mercedes, with both drivers suffering gearbox problems which kept them confined to the garage for much of the session.
