HIGHLIGHTS: Watch all the action from a thrilling qualifying session at Silverstone
A stunning circuit, packed grandstands, a sunny day, and a brand new race weekend format: Silverstone was primed for some exciting on-track action on Friday, and boy did the drivers deliver.
With the all-new F1 Sprint making its debut this weekend, qualifying was held on Friday evening after just one practice session earlier in the day. And it was a brilliantly tense battle between title protagonists Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen with the advantage flipping both ways during the hour long session.
But in the end it was Hamilton who, roared on by his home fans, pulled out a supreme lap in Q3 to top qualifying and seal P1 on the grid for Saturday's Sprint in the process.
Further down the order, fellow home favourite George Russell was getting cheers just as loud from the crowd as he hauled his Williams up into Q3 and then to eighth on the grid in a fantastic performance.
See all the key moments from a hugely entertaining quali session in the video above.
