Max Verstappen seized control of the Las Vegas Grand Prix from the start, as championship leader and polesitter Lando Norris was relegated to third.
Verstappen took full advantage to climb into the lead as Norris ran wide at the first corner, before George Russell also made his way past the McLaren driver into second place.
It was an equally poor start for Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren, as he dropped places having made contact with Liam Lawson. However, front wing damage for the Racing Bulls driver saw Piastri regain a position before the lap's end.
Ollie Bearman and Lewis Hamilton enjoyed the best starts however, with the former climbing six places to eighth, and the latter from the back of the grid to 12th.
Lance Stroll retired at Turn 1 after Gabriel Bortoleto slammed into his Aston Martin when attempting an ambitious move to the inside.
