WATCH: Leclerc ends up in the barriers after losing control of his Ferrari in FP2
Friday was, in general, a good day for Ferrari, who showed promising speed on home soil in Imola. But things ended on a slightly sour note for the team in red, when Charles Leclerc speared into the barriers with a couple of minutes to go in FP2.
The Monegasque driver admitted over team radio he was ‘pushing quite hard’ when he went off, the two-time Grand Prix winner losing control of the rear of his car going into Turn 17 (Rivazza) before his correction took him off the road, through the gravel and into the wall.
Leclerc, whose car suffered what appeared to be fairly significant front-end damage in the crash, finished the session in P5, one place down on team mate Carlos Sainz.
Leclerc had been fourth quickest in Friday’s earlier FP1.
